Winter Solstice Blessings 2013

Birth of the Soul by Iris SullivanThe darkest midnight,

The earth shall be light,

and shall gleam like a star.

Image : Birth of the Soul by Iris Sullivan – www.movingthesoulwithcolour.com As many of you know, we’re now experiencing the longest night of the year, waiting for our Sun King (derived from our ancient Celtic roots) to return at dawn tomorrow for the Winter Solstice around 5.11pm. At this point the balance has tipped as far towards the darkness as it can go. We are so ready for the light to return and we must do all we can to help it. This time of year was sacred long before the birth of Christ. The early church chose it for one of their most important holidays. During this season, ceremony can be focussed on strengthening our inner light. On solstice night many pagans stay up all night to help Mother Earth give birth to the sun and the new year from her night-sky womb. If you can’t stay awake all night, then ask for special dreams as you fall asleep in the womb of the Mother. The rising of the Sun King brings all our hopes, wishes and dreams for the New Year with him. With these new beginnings we can trust that even when life seems hard, change will come and we can rest in order to be renewed again.

What projects, ideas and new seeds will help you express your true potential on this earth?

Tomorrow morning I’m planning to watch the sunrise from our local highest point. Tomorrow evening I will create a spiral of evergreens for people to journey into it’s centre and light a candle from the ‘sun’, placing their candles anywhere along the spiral to create a spiral of lights. The spiral represents everlasting life and lighting our own core essence from that of the Sun King, who’s energy helps us to bring projects and ideas into action.

Description:    This series of four weekend workshops (with the option of an overnight stay on the Saturday) will take you on a Sacred Journey from birth to death and finally to awakening.  Each weekend explores a different cardinal direction, in order to honour all the gifts and teachings associated with each of the four elements, their archetypes and their respective healing powers.  The weekends will be powerful, intensive and very creative and will include ceremony, ritual, many energetic exercises, time for deep personal inner work and group celebration, indoors and outside in nature.  We begin in South, the path of Truth and Beauty guided by Serpent.  In June we move West, the path of Peace and Fearlessness, guided by Jaguar.  In September we fly North, on the path of Joy and Harmony, guided by Humming Bird and in October we end in East, the path of Spirit and Awakening, guided by Eagle.  Whilst we strongly encourage you to commit to the whole Medicine Wheel, it is possible to join us for just one.

Facilitators:     Neil Brocklehurst and Ali Rabjohns are experienced shamanic practitioners who have trained with Alberto Villoldo and the Four Winds Society and with Juan and Ivan Nuñez del Prado and run regular workshops and healing sessions for groups and individuals. White Buffalo Drum Circle and Despacho Ceremony

White Buffalo Drum Circle and Despacho Ceremony

The White Buffalo Drum Circle and Despacho Ceremony for unity was a powerful event this weekend, many people traveling far and wide to be there.

White Buffalo Woman took us on a deep , gentle healing journey through the power of her voice, medicine drum and beautiful indian flutes. We all drummed together to raise the vibration of the ceremony , which took several hours to complete. Needless to say, much healing happened in a short space of time. Spirit medicine was strong, being channelled through White Buffalo Woman as the wise words of Sitting Bull – a famous sioux chief. White Buffalo Woman also sang some of the chants that she had previously been given from the 21 Native american chiefs. Please see Theresa’s website for more details:  http://www.radiantsounds.org.uk/

After a short break, the circle continued with a Despacho ceremony with Ali for unity consciousness and also for people’s personal healing, for the healing of our friends and family and for the healing of our community. The Despacho ceremony is a very important component of the Andean Medicine Tradition and helps us to re-connect to Pachamamma (Mother Earth) and all of nature, including the Apu’s (Mountain spirits) and the stars (Chaska).

We hope to carry this circle on  as part of  The Wild Star Gathering on 18 August in Stanmer Park. Please contact Ali for more details.

The picture below shows the despacho wrapped in a medicine blanket. This is then used to cleanse the energy field of every participant at the end of the ceremony, before it’s burnt in a fire ceremony outside.

Prayer for the Earth

Prayer for the Earth

I watched the sun rise this morning. What a gift, thank you

Here is a prayer for the earth from Chief Dan George – I have a wonderful book called Earth Prayers, edited by Elizabeth Roberts and Elias Amidon

The beauty of the trees, the softness of the air,the fragrance of the grass speaks to me.

The summit of the mountain, the thunder of the sky,the rhythm of the sea, speaks to me.

The faintness of the stars, the freshness of the morning, the dewdrop on the flower, speaks to me.

The strength of fire, the taste of salmon, the trail of sun and the life that never goes away, they speak to me.

And my heart soars.
