A Natural Hot Tub
A natural hot tub lit underneath.
It was a beautiful summer’s evening, just perfect for lighting our natural hot tub in the garden. When we moved into our house several years ago, we stripped one of the bathrooms and took the old iron bath out into the garden. My friend Gaye gave me the idea of turning it into a hot tub and now it’s sprayed copper and in a secluded corner of our garden. It overlooks a stunning view of the downs and fields in the distance.
Sunset with the hot tub.
This hot tub ceremony was really to honour myself, as I’ve been so busy lately. It feels like time is speeding up faster and faster !. The summer has been a very full experience and I’d just been on a vision quest for a couple of days. The culmination of the vision quest ( which I may write about at some point too) meant that I felt I really needed to reflect on the best way to move forward towards the Autumn. One of the most efficient ways for me to let go of heaviness is either through swimming or a nice hot bath.
I opened sacred space in the garden and set my intention to release anything that no longer served me into the water. It took ages for the fire to heat up the iron bath and about an hour to fill it with water, using a bucket – I think I need to use the hose next time!. Anyway, these acts were therapeutic in themselves. I also cleared the nettles around the bath, that had grown up over the summer time. I made a special bath oil concoction with 100 % natural organic Doterra essential oils of geranium, marjoram and lavender mixed with fracturated coconut which I love. I also added Epsom salts to help clear any heavy energy from my luminous energy field.
I placed tealights and candles in jars all around the bath. The air was so still and clear that I could light a candle and the flame would burn true and bright, without any protection. So, I also had some church candles and a few moroccan lanterns placed around, so I could see where I was going in the dark.
The tub got super hot (quicker than I expected) and took ages to cool down enough for me to step into it, which I did once the fire underneath had gone out. There’s nothing quite like sitting in a bath that’s been heated naturally with a fire, with the iron of the bath generating heat as well. Eventually when I sat in it, I could feel myself being warmed through right to the very core of my being and to my bones. It’s so delicious and such a lovely thing to do.
Dreaming a New Vision.
Watching the cosmos.
While I was in the bath, it was almost a full moon ( or just three or four days off), so I could see the moon travelling slowly across the sky. Three shooting stars flew over me and I also heard some tawny owls calling to each other. The air was so still that I could hear traffic and distant music. The trees rustled around me, holding space. It was absolutely divine . I let go of ‘doing’ all the time and enjoyed just ‘being’ for a while. It was time to regroup my energies, a magical timeless experience and perfect for a summer’s evening.
Circular Earth Mandala
Earth Rituals and Outside Altars
We all have our daily rituals and routines – but one of my favourite things to do is to set up an outside altar on a walk or when I have some time outside in the garden.
I think it appeals to my artist’s side and hopefully it can inspire you to do this in your own way, as of course- there are no rules!.
Over the last few years, as a textile artist, I was fortunate enough to be asked to go to Canada to participate in a textiles exhibition on a beautiful piece of land which included a waterfall, woodland and a stream. There were also sightings of bears, hummingbirds and dragonflies.
Altars for the Heart
Heart Altars with Plant Seeds. By Owen Tuff 2013.
My artist partner Owen Tuff, started making these little outdoor altars and I realised that I’d also been doing a similar thing without realising it since my early childhood.
Between the years of 3 and 18, I grew up in North Wales and Dorset. I had a beautiful piece of land to rom around in, this is where I discovered the beauty of ripe, juicy elderberries and how to build a dry stone wall.
At the moment, I’m staying in Suffolk, Walberswick and I thought it would be a nice thing to show you some easy ways of creating an outside altar on the beach. I also made some simple boats with the students and we let these go to the sea, with their intentions for the future.
Three Simple Steps:
- Open sacred space
- Collect your materials for honouring and showing your gratitude.
- Place in a constellation that’s happy and satisfying to you.
Materials can connect to each of the elements: earth, fire, air and water. Use these elements or weather around you to inform your practice. Look at what you’re being told by the wind and the sky. Notice what birds or animals come to visit. Listen to the whispers of the ancestors in the wind while you work.
Here , I simply drew a labyrinth in the sand. But you could create mermaids out of natural materials or balance stones upon each other.
Mama Cocha the ocean and Pachamama are incredibly soothing and grounding beings to be with.
One of the nicest things to do is to have a fire ceremony outside and share some of the Munay Ki rites as a group with an outside altar to honour the ancestors. I hope this has inspired you in some way. If you have any further questions please get in touch.

A Space Clearing Ceremony.
Town House in Islington
This was an absolutely stunning town house in Islington spread over five floors. It had been previously owned by the Roman Catholic church until the 1960’s and was a place where pregnant unmarried girls and young women from Ireland were sent to have their babies. They were then strongly encouraged to give these babies up for adoption, at this time there was no other choice.
Michelle, the owner of the property herself had Irish heritage and felt called to bring healing to the land of this place. As we opened sacred space and I spent time in the house, we tuned into the qualities of uncertainty, deep shame, fear, desperation and feeling controlled. There had been very little choice for these young women, as it was perceived that these babies would be given a ‘better chance of life’ in Holborn and the surrounding areas.
At first, it wasn’t apparent where the heaviness lay, except that I was shown that there was a deep root of pain right into the centre of the house footprint going into the earth. The pendulum showed me that there was heavy energy in the first three floors of the front rooms in the property but these rooms were easily cleared with my crystal and bell.
The Shamanic Ceremony.
Despacho Ceremony using rose petals from the garden.
It was very easy working with Michelle, infant it felt as though the whole day’s work was a gift from heaven in more ways than one!. First we put up an altar facing North West, this was guided to me by the ancestors. The altar had spring water, fresh flowers from the abundance of the beautiful walled garden, chocolate offerings for the land spirits and the ancestors and many crystals. Michelle set up the altar and had also brought a labyrinth with her, handmade by herself and a friend. The opening of the labyrinth faced the trees at the back of the property.
Next, I journeyed to the root of the pain and cleared it with my vogelwand, whilst Michelle walked the labyrinth over and over again in honour of all the women and girls who had suffered under the roof of this house. Afterwards, we felt that there had been kindness but that there has also been a few domineering and controlling individuals on the church side. I later, connected the space to the christ consciousness grid and asked the star beings to take extra care of this place.
We played some music, the essence of which for me was about empowerment on behalf of all young women, stepping into their sexuality.
An Ayni Despacho
Basket of perfect roses from the garden.
We then created an ayni despacho for the house and women, using different coloured rose petals from the garden. Yellow in particular was for healing. An ayni despacho harmonises the energies and brings them into balance. We blew in our own wishes and prayers for ourselves, our families and friends plus our wider projects and groups/communities. This was such a beautiful experience, knowing that we were bringing everything into balance with the living energy of the universe.
The Despacho Fire
Despacho fire in garden.
At first the despacho burnt easily and then we struggled to keep it alight, but we persevered and this eventually burnt to ash. After it had burnt, we felt that the work was complete and I experienced the energy of the land moving like a clear river under the house once more.
We travelled back to Lewes on the train, chatting and laughing – A day’s work well done! Thank you Michelle for inviting me to work on your land, it was a great honour and I hope that there will be more opportunities like this in the future, as I really enjoyed this experience.

“If you have hope in your heart and even if you’re the only person left who has hope in their heart, as long as your hope is committed in action, then hope is alive in the world” Julia Butterfly Hill.
Being a shamanic practitioner has led me to so many treasures and given me the strength to face any challenges in the way. I have been forced to face my deepest fears and to work with my shadow, amongst other things. My mesa has been with me now since 2007 when I finished my ‘Healing the Light Body Training’ with The Four Winds Society. I cannot believe it’s over ten years ago when I started this incredible medicine path.
My mesa is definitely a part of me ( see photo above). It is a symbol of my wounds that have been healed and brought into balance. The Khuya’s (stones) are now imbued with compassion and love. They can now help me inspire a client on their journey to wellness. Each Khuya represents a wound or an issue that I’ve personally had to deal with. So, when a client chooses a particular stone, I have a good idea as to what kind of journey they’ve been on and where the root of it may lie.
I feed my mesa regularly with home made florida water and ultimately my love. I talk to it and what it needs, sometimes I open it under the full moon to recharge the stones. To me, my mesa is another living being. I don’t have it open all the time, only when I’m working with it or when I’m with a client.
What do the stones or Khuya’s mean?
Medicine Wheel students sorting through the ashes of the fire for their North stones.
Sometimes, (like in the North direction) I’ve had to put my North stones in the fire and they have transformed.
Each Khuya is a wisdom keeper and has been on it’s own journey for many thousands of years before it has got to me. Sometimes I have found my khuya’s on the ground, some of them have been gifts and some I have bought in a shop. All of them in some way called to me and asked to be in my mesa.
We believe that the stones and crystals of the earth are the wisdom keepers and they play an important part during any healing ritual. They will hold a clients pain whilst the heavy energy in the LEF is gently released and brought back into balance.
A client will be able to tune into their body to where a particular issue is being held and then inform the stone with their breath. This ‘programmes’ the stone and helps to act as an organising principle for the healing session – allowing whichever layers that need to come up – be released.
My mesa cloth is also really special, as it’s been woven specifically for this purpose of carrying my khuya’s. Each motif or pattern represents a specific nature being, like Into Titi for the sun, the river, the mountain spirits (apu’s). Each step of our spiritual paths are woven intricately into the cloth as the Q’ero are master weavers themselves. I love weaving myself but when I look at these mesa cloths, I have no idea how it’s been woven. I also made a felted inner cloth for my mesa in sacred space.
( Left Photo) Don Augustine performing a Despacho Ceremony near Salkantay, Peru.
I have such gratitude for all my teachers, seen and unseen along the way. It has been a humbling experience to be in my their presence, to see the beauty of their hearts as with a simple bell or a song they would open a way for spirit and for dreams to become reality.
The Q’eros know that the only way that the earth can survive these times is to bring their teachings to the west. Alberto trained with several different medicine men and women from The High Andes in order to do just that. I am very grateful to him, everything he taught me works in the most beautiful way – It has changed many peoples lives for the better when I have used it. I honour the fact that Alberto had the courage to put together his course and I value the teachings I received.
When I discovered the Four Winds Society I was looking for a spiritual path that had a deep connection and reverence with nature. I’ve been lucky enough to train with Dr Alberto Villoldo PHD – a medical anthropologist. A wonderful man – when he speaks to a group, he speaks on many different levels. He trained with the Native American people in the Andes and the Amazon and researched the training that I received on the ‘Healing the Light Body’ programme.
Some people feel that you need to be careful who you show your mesa to but I feel it’s good to trust your intuition and be discerning. Each Khuya can be carefully cleansed by blowing any stale or heavy energy (hucha) to a candle flame or holding it gently above the flame and moving it around until you feel it’s clean.

For all our relations
I’m going to introduce these beautiful rites here so that you can see their infinite potential. Each person I give these rites to, takes a new path in some way in their lives and allow this to unfold in their consciousness with beauty and grace. We never know how these seeds of light will manifest and that’s the beauty of this work. I hope I have inspired you to find out more about this path of transformation.
In order to discover who we are as well as where we are, self discipline is essential, because without it we cannot progress.
• The Healers Rite: Launches our healing journey and activates your healing power. Connects you to a lineage of Earthkeepers from the past that come to assist you in your personal healing. We have tremendous spiritual assistance available to us if we ask. These luminous beings work on us during our meditation and sleep time to heal the wounds of our past and of our ancestors.
• The Bands of Power: Protections, these consist of five energetic bands representing earth, fire , water and pure light. These bands are installed in your luminous energy field and act as filters, breaking down into one of the five elements any heavy energy that comes your way – so that these energies can feed you instead of weighing you down or making you ill. They replace any psychological or emotional protection you may have had to put into place during your lifetime or in previous lifetimes.
• The Harmony Rites: Connect you to the organising principles of the universe, which are 7 archetypes from each tradition. There’s 1 for each chakra: serpent, jaguar, humming bird, eagle and then 3 “archangels” go into the upper chakras.
The World Tree is a way of Journeying down to the underworld, where Huascar is the guardian. He helps us to see what’s hidden.
There’s Huascar Inca – keeper of the lower world and the unconscious who goes into the throat; Quetzacotl – the feathered serpent, god of the Americas and keeper of the middle world (our waking world) goes into our brow and Pachakuti – protector of the upper world (and super consciousness), keeper of time – goes into our crown. These archetypes are transmitted as seeds and germinate with fire. You have to perform a number of fire meditations to help them to grow. Afterwards, they help to combust the psychic sludge that has built up in your chakras – so that they can shine with their original light as you acquire a rainbow body.
• The Seers Rites: Awakens the Seer within; re-wires perceptual centres. This installs filaments of light extending from your visual cortex in the back of your head to your third eye and heart chakras. It awakens your perception of the invisible worlds. It really helped me to perceive the world of energy around me more clearly.
The Daykeepers herald the sunrise and the sunset.
The Lineage Rites
• Daykeepers Rite: This brings healing and beauty from the ancient stone altars from around the world. Helping you to call on the power of these ancient places to heal and bring balance to the world. This connects you to a lineage of earth keepers from the past. They were generally women and knowledgable about the ways of the feminine earth, herbalism and midwifery. They bring about the healing of your inner feminine, helping you to step beyond fear and practice peace.
• The Wisdom keepers Rite: This rite teaches us to bring wisdom and joy. It eliminates suffering. The job of the wisdom keeper is to protect the medicine teachings and share them with others when appropriate. This rite helps you to step outside of time and to taste infinity.
• The Earthkeepers Rite: This rite connects you to a lineage of archangels that are guardians of our galaxy. They’re reputed to have human form and be as tall as trees. They hold stewardship of entire earth and help us to become peace. They are called upon to bring balance and healing to any situation. The rite of the earth keeper helps you to learn the ways of the Seer and dream the world into being.
. Rites of the Time to Come.
- The Starkeeper rites : This Rite downloads the final codes for the new human into the luminous energy field. It anchors you in the future NOW. According to lore, your physical body begins to evolve into that of Homo Luminous. The ageing process is slowed down and illnesses are processed more at an energetic level. The Starkeepers Rite attunes us to a high frequency of star energy, so that we can communicate with the stars at a very deep level.
- In essence – these rites haven’t changed for thousands of years.
The 5 Principles of the MUNAY KI
- Non Violence
I offer 1:1 consultations and groups to share these beautiful rites. Contact me for more details.
May you fly with beauty.
For all our relations.
Let your path of beauty unfold like the sunrise!.
The path of the Munay Ki is simply beautiful, they work at the level of spirit and of the soul. They speak to us through our hearts with story, imagery and myth. I feel that this magic and divine love is something we as a society deeply crave.
These rites can teach us so much about the power of divine love, connecting us with a lineage of ancestors, angels and star beings from the future to guide us and help us on our path. These can show us how to live in harmony with others and with nature. They can help us to prepare for the time to come and to remember why we came here to planet earth at this time.
The Inca have said that the rites are not really for us individually, they’re for others and to be shared. In Alberto’s experience (my teacher), they don’t blossom until they have been given away with great Munay, with love in service. It is known that the shaman sees with the eyes of the heart. The Q’ero Earthkeepers in Peru are optimistic and say that this is a time of tremendous opportunity, but that there will be a fall in the numbers of the human population. This is why it’s so important to hold a healthy vision of the planet – where we can step into our highest destinies and live sustainably on the earth.
The rites are a great way of bringing more love into your life and your life into balance . It’s wonderful to be living at such a marvelous poignant point in the history of the world. Lots of things are coming to their natural end and it’s important to have love, creativity, dance, music and ceremony to mark this time of transition that we’re in!. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for!
“ I believe that this is the moment when the human species can rise to it’s full potential. We have now created for ourselves the greatest challenge we have ever faced. And that means that we have the opportunity to live the most meaningful lives that have ever been lived” David Ulansey.
The 9 Rites of the Munay-Ki
Become Earthkeepers for Gaia or Mother Earth.
The 9 Rites of the Munay-Ki transform and upgrade your luminous energy field. They are energetic transmissions that can heal the wounds of the past-your karmic & genetic inheritance.
They re-inform your DNA, enabling you to grow a new body-one that ages, heals, and dies differently. The Munay-Ki is your invitation to dream an entire new world into being. It is the beginning of the Hero’s Journey.
These 9 rites can be passed on and exchanged without any formal training. They create a shift in frequency in your energy field, cleansing your charkas and activating your rainbow light body, so that you become HOMO LUMINOUS Living, Ageing and Dying Differently.
The Munay Ki are the teachings of love, pure undiluted love from the source. When we come from a place of humility, we connect with the energy of compassion, which allows us to experience the power of love. When we practice acceptance and live what we feel, we are drawn towards reverence, an active respect for everyone and everything we encounter in life.
Each of us comes into the world with a light body that’s connected to our genetic, karmic and ancestral heritage. It is also our soul’s light that nourishes , strengthens and sustains us as we live and our lives unfold. Sometimes as we grow in experience and wisdom things happen. The Q’ero believe that there is only sami (light energy) or hucha (heavy energy). The Munay Ki can clear your luminous energy field of the psychic sludge left by past traumas.
Our consciousness as a human race is expanding each day, connecting our hearts and minds.
Why are the Munay-Ki so important?
- They activate the LEF and its power to manifest and create. They teach us how to act with ‘right thought, right heart, right action’
- They transform our lives from scarcity to grace.
- They help us to restore our natural divine radiance, living with humility, reverence for the earth and knowing ourselves with self discipline. We cannot walk a sacred path without discipline, this is where so many teachers and spiritual seekers have stumbled.
How can these seeds of light help us?
The Plaeides constellation, seeds of light and starkeepers to guide and inspire us.
The Munay Ki are planted like seeds in a garden. Praying to the four directions, the breath and fire ceremonies grow these seeds. These seeds are fed by opening sacred space, performing fire ceremony and with the breath. To walk this path of fire, one must have strongly developed ethics and one must have a well developed heart. We can use the fire ceremony to feed our hearts and release what’s no longer needed in our lives. They help us acquire great power in our hearts by helping us develop strong ethics.
- We can become connected to the day keepers rite, the ones who tended the ancient temples.
- We can become connected to the starkeepers rite and all the archangels. We walk in beauty in protection and grace. We can become our own storytellers and myth makers
- We dream a vision of a beautiful healed world for our future generations.
I will continue in detail about each rite in another post.
May you fly with beauty.
For all our relations.
A new path can unfold when we receive the Munay Ki Rites.
The Munay Ki
I was given the Munay Ki rites and trained to pass them on by Pauline Black in 2008, who participated in the first Munay-Ki course with The Four Winds Society in London.
These rites are very powerful and, for many recipients, transformational tools for developing a deep awareness of some aspects of Andean as well as more universal spiritual practices. Together with other Munay Ki practitioners, I agree that these rites are a good foundation for and introduction to a much deeper set of practices, many of which come from the peoples of Q’eros and have been since taught to me in their pure form.
The Munay Ki Rites remind us of our macro and micro connection to the universe.
For myself, the rites have deepened my connection with the core shamanic principles and energetic techniques, which were taught to me by Juan Nunez Del Prado and Alberto Villoldo, as well as opening up a new gateway. This gateway, once stepped through honours the sacred and simple reverence of nature and has helped me to bring into balance my physical, emotional and spiritual being into ‘right thought, right heart, right action’.
They have helped me to create a safe space to work with ceremony, to develop my healing and psychic abilities. They have given me a sacred connection to the power places, the stars, the mountains and the luminous beings, who help me everyday in my work.
Dreaming Our World into Being for our Children’s Children.
I’m very grateful to the Four Winds Society for helping the Western world access such poignant spiritual and energetic awareness, at a time when we so severely need it. I heard today that Shamans in the Amazon consider the western world as having ‘severed their connection’ with spirit. Receiving the Munay Ki is a wonderful way of re-connecting to, sourcing from our spiritual strength and dreaming our world into being for our highest good and for our children’s children.
Once I was given the Munay Ki rites, I was in a good place to go much deeper into a beautiful set of sacred practices still alive today in the High Andes. As I teach the Munay Ki and pass on the rites to others, I make it clear that they also contain the essence of several traditions. These, when taken as a whole can also provide us with a beautiful, meaningful and helpful introduction to the world of living energy healing.
A core aspect of Andean mysticism is something called “puqllay” which means sacred play. When you see the Q’ero medicine men and women, they take their ceremonies and shamanic work very seriously but they also take time out to play football !. So, in the spirit of “Puqllay’ I invite you to receive, give and share these rites with others and enjoy yourselves along the way.
Having fun is so important in our fast paced world!.
I particularly love the starkeepers rite and the seers rite but you will have your own favourites.
The Munay Ki rites have been an amazing journey. I felt my impulse to have the rites grow until I was guided towards Ali in her beautiful sanctuary. Slowly, a wonderful new dimension for my life has opened up. We carried out some of the rites in sacred places and in nature, were we could feel all the energy of the elements supporting us. We connected strongly with the ancestral luminous beings who always guided us . During this time, I felt such a sense of reciprocity and balance. I’m very grateful to Mother Earth, the Spirit World, our past and future generations and the archetypes for having shared their wisdom. They’ve put such a generous full of light being called Ali on my path. In love and light, A. Martha , Naturopath, Hartford, July 2014 UK.
Something is very different that I don’t really have the words for since receiving the rites. I feel a quietness, calm and joy is flowing into my life when wandering each day out in the countryside. Thank you once again for a very enlightening experience with the Munay Ki rites, it was very much the right time and in your wonderful sessions and delivery the right person for me, with gratitude to you.
Brian Anderson, Shamanic Practitioner, Bath, April 2013

Welcome to the blossoming time of year!
Blossom is irresistable!
The bluebells and wild garlic are so wonderful at this time of year. This time around Easter helps me to feel re-born into a new way of life. My medicine walks help me to search for new sacred space in the world, reminding me that I carry my serenity with me wherever I walk.
Joseph Campbell says ‘Sacred space and sacred time and something joyous to do is all we need. almost anything then becomes a continuous and increasing joy’. In her book ‘Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy’, Sarah encourages us to engage in simple springtime rituals of rejuvenation.
We can also seek sacred space in the lower, middle and upper worlds through journeying or visualisation. At the Spring Equinox, we planted our ‘seeds’ for our dreams this year and now it’s time to patiently wait. Part of this process is to hold the healed vision and the highest potential of that seed in our hearts.
At the last full moon ceremony I held, we journeyed into the heart of blossom. This is the essence of blossom , which emanates our own beautiful authenticity. Here is the journey for you to try, it was first offered to me by my friend and sound healer Carolyn Richards for the Earth Calendar day Beltain. I’ve changed it a little bit, as that’s what shaman do, they weave their own medicine into their work to make it their own.
Preparation for your Shamanic Journey
First of all, turn off your devices!
Open Sacred Space
Click a Prayer for Creating Sacred Space for the words.
Sit somewhere you won’t be disturbed for at least twenty minutes. If you have a drum or rattle please feel free to use them, otherwise you can use a singing bowl or a download of a shamanic journey. There are lots of them available, I like the ones by Sandra Ingerman.
You could also try just imagining with your mind’s eye, without any tools at all.
The Journey into Blossom
Picture a meadow full of wild flowers in your mind’s eye.
Imagine yourself on the edge of a meadow, it’s a beautiful sunny day and the birds are out in force.
Look down and notice if you’re wearing shoes, finding the path that will take you to the woodlands in the distance. Use all your senses to see, touch, hear and feel the beautiful nature all around you. The lovely long stalks of the grasses and the smell of the earth.
Eventually, you reach the edge of the meadow and you can wash your hands and face in a clear running stream at the woodland edge . Step into the woods and find your own special spot. This could be a grove of trees or a woodland glade filled with bluebells. See if you can find somewhere with blossom and sunshine.
Take yourself there for a moment to relax, sit and observe the beauty of this place. How does it make you feel?. There is a beautiful tree ripe with blossom in the centre of your space and you watch the bees as they work. One bumble bee makes it’s way into each flower and collecting the pollen. It’s working so hard to make honey.
Honour this bee by sending it your highest heart energies. Imagine that you yourself are shrinking as small as a bee.You are so small that you can also visit the beautiful smelling blossom. What does this blossom smell, feel or look like, as you move closer and closer to it’s centre?.
Possible Questions for your Journey
See if the blossom has anything to say to you. You can ask questions to this blossom, which represents the highest potential of your flowering:
- What’s my next step?
- How can I experience more joy in my life?
- How can I live from my heart?
Listen for the answers that may come to you visually, editorially or kinaesthetically. How does it feel to bee?.
Then, slowly come back to your normal body size and bring yourself out of this sacred space, knowing that you can always come back here when you need to.
This is similar to the ancient art of shapeshifting, I hope I’ve inspired you to try it.
The Shamanic Way of the Bee by Simon Buxton is a good book to read about the sacred life of bees.
The Druid Plant Oracle by Philip and Stephanie Carr-Gomm, is a beautifully illustrated set of cards that helped me to connect deeply with different native plants from our lands.
May you flow with beauty.
Breathing and Walking ..
Blossom in my garden, which is in the South Downs National Park.
With such beautiful weather recently, it was time to dust off the walking boots and venture out into the wilds of Sussex for a medicine walk!.
I’m very lucky to be living near the South Downs Way and in the South Downs National Park. What better way to spend part of my weekend than to honour my local ley lines, dragon lines or energy lines, across the spine of the downs from Devil’s Dyke to Lewes.
I took with me corn and tobacco as offerings for the ancestors and the land spirits or elementals who may need sustenance along the way.
My intention for this walk was to find a clear way through a complicated situation I had been drawn into. Walking is great because it’s healthy and it’s free. It gives me such a sense of freedom and happiness when I can see for miles all around me.
Gorse on the South Downs
Walking takes me back to being a child, hearing the larks in the summer meadows and smelling the gorse in Purbeck, Dorset. A friend says that when gorse isn’t in bloom, kissing goes out of season, meaning of course that gorse is always flowering – but it’s particularly gorgeous at this time of year. When I looked up the shamanic meaning of gorse, it said ‘enduring affection’. I loved seeing the bumble bees gathering the nectar from the gorse flowers. That was beautiful to witness and bee energy reminded me very much about the importance of community living. The bee also reminds me of hummingbird medicine, sipping the nectar of life in the sun, a liquid sugar mellowed by sunshine.
Dew Pond near Ditchling Beacon
One of my favourite times was walking through a field of rape. This is a cultivated plant related to the brassica family, so it has quite a strong smell and a beautiful bright yellow colour that would cheer up anyone needing a boost of positive energy. Another special time was seeing the light reflected on the sparking water of the dew pond. There was just so much light out there on the surface !
Philip Carr Gomm inspired me to walk the land in Sussex with his book ‘The Druid Way’ .
As I walk the land where I live, I’m brought back into right relationship with the earth. I find it incredibly grounding and it helps me to be present. I got a sense of the thousands of people through the ages who walked on these paths before me. Different historical filters moved swiftly infront of my mind’s eye as I walked along the beaten chalk paths.
Another beautiful moment was when I walked back through Lewes and stumbled across a beautiful apothecary called A.S Apothecary with natural, local beauty products. I got to try out some of their skin serum on my sunburn. If you get a chance, you must go !
A medicine walk should really be walked alone, as then you’re not distracted by walking and talking. Then you notice the shapes of the clouds and the auditory , kinaesthetic, visual, instinctual messages you may receive from spirit. However, for me walking is also about celebrating relationship and friendship with another.
I’m doing another medicine walk this next weekend – I hope I’ve inspired you to try it!.
If you have any questions about Medicine Walks or would like me to help you create one, please contact me on email@example.com.
May you flow with beauty,
For all our relations.
New Moon Blessings.
Shell Mandala 2 by J.L.E Crowe
This powerful new moon is a time of new beginnings and pathways. As Alberto Villoldo said when I was training… it’s important that we clear up our own river!.
In my last post I talked about different ways of honouring water, as well as working energetically with it.
This time I would like to discuss space clearing and how to dedicate an altar that’s dedicated to water.
Recently I was invited to visit a nearby blocked well. Many years ago, outbreaks of cholera caused the wells in our village to be closed over. My friend Aoife, a sound healer – had lived in the village previously and had received a message from spirit about a trapped soul at the bottom of a well. She hadn’t yet followed this up but a synchronistic incident led me, Aoife and another friend together last weekend. Aoife found out that the well she had been told about was at the front of this friend’s house!.
So, last night we went round to the house and made offerings of cornmeal and tobacco to the four corners of the land. We called in sacred space. Aoife had brought drums, a clearing bell and her beautiful voice.
Sound is very important, the sound waves help to keep the vibration raised enough to free the trapped or imbalanced energies. Rhythmical drumming or rattling also helps me to hold space and to step in between the worlds. Here, we are stepping outside of time.
Releasing a Trapped Spirit from The Well
We created an altar at the front of the house by the well. We lit two nightlights and blessed the well with spring water, smudging the whole area and ourselves with white sage. On the altar was a Q’ero symbol of yinantin, a supreme balance of masculine and feminine harmony, which was a red and white carnation.
Together, we tuned into the land and sensed that this trapped soul needed much love enveloped around it. He was so scared, he hadn’t necessarily fallen into the well but had become confused about where to find the light home. This could have been after a death due to illness at the time.
There he was in my mind’s eye as Aoife drummed and sang a gentle lullaby. I tuned into the land spirits and the water spirits, asking what they needed. They asked for a small chrystal. I opened my mesa and immediately knew which one had to go to the water in the well.
It took a long time for me to wiggle the brick in the ‘eye’ of the well free from the concrete block on top of it. Then, I could see the rounded brick walls leading vertically to the well bottom.
In gratitude, I threw down the chrystal and poured in some florida water. As Aoife held space, we called on this boy’s parents to help escort him to the light. We had the support of the land spirits, the water spirits and the ancestors to do this work.
This little boy spirit was ready to go and appreciated our efforts to coax him up to the light. I used my Vogel Chrystal to help him go and performed a small fire ceremony later to release him to the stars.
We were both happy that the process had been easy and closed sacred space.
Tips for Space Clearing.
Clearing the land can be as simple as this. One of my favourites is called ‘Clearing – a Guide to Liberating Energies trapped in buildings and land’ by Jim Pathfinder Ewing.
Even if you don’t need to do a full land clearing or release a trapped spirit, this time of year is excellent for clutter clearing.
You could tune into the water table beneath the earth, or the nearest body of water to check that it’s flowing freely and feels happy. If there’s a need for anything , you will receive a message through auditory, visual, kinaesthetic means or even just a ‘knowing’.
I will be talking more about space clearing soon. In the meantime if you have any questions, please contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Happy water cleansing and sacred ritual bathing!.
